Nokia Corp (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) 3310 Expected To Be Re-Launched At The Mobile World Congress

Reports indicate that HMD Global is planning to unveil a modern version of the iconic Nokia Corp (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) 3310. The feature phone was launched almost two decades ago to replace the 3210 which was equally popular. It is understood that the feature phone will primarily be targeted at those who want to use it as a second mobile phone. The phone will be launched during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

Simplicity and durability

Compared to modern smartphones, the Nokia 3310 was renowned for its long battery life as well as its hardiness which made it very durable. When thrown, dropped or crushed, the Nokia 3310 was invincible. So much so that it was picked as one of Finland’s national emojis bearing the title ‘The Unbreakable’.

While on standby the phone could be expected to last up to 245 hours on a 900mAh battery. The feature was also light as it weighed a mere 133 grams.

Bestseller of the ages

At the time of its release, the features it came such as screensavers, vibration and pre-installed games such as Snake II, were attractive enough to make it one of the best-selling phones of all times with units totaling more than 126 million being sold globally. The design of the phone was also customizable since the back covers could be changed to a design or color of the user’s choice.

Other Nokia phones that HMD Global is slated to unveil during the Mobile World Congress include the Nokia 6 which is currently only available in China. The Nokia 3 and the Nokia 3 which are going to run on Android 7.0 Nougat are also expected to be launched.

While Nokia 6 boasts of a display measuring 5.5 inches that is full high definition, a 16 MP camera and 4 gigabytes of RAM among other features, Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 are expected to have less impressive features since they are aimed at the lower end of the market. Nokia will, for instance, sport a smaller display and less RAM.

On Friday shares of Nokia Corporation fell by 0.39% to close the day at $5.05.
