Good news for Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) customers, as they can now have their screen replaced within a day.
The stats of cracked screens
Verizon notes that one in three American smartphone users has a device with a cracked screen, or as they are often referred to “spider web screen.” An average smartphone user drops their device at least once a week. Most people do not have smartphone insurance, so they end up using a device with a cracked screen, or end up with an unusable device, and result in replacing the device.
Same-day replacements at a location of your choosing
Fortunately for Verizon customers, a cracked screen will no longer be a big issue. The network provider is promising to replace damaged screens on the same day you request the service. Customers will have the option to either request a technician to come to them or to visit one of the 220 repair stations in 34 states and Washington DC.
But not all phones are eligible
However, not all smartphones are eligible for this service. At the moment, the same-day screen repair is available on the following devices;
- iPhone 6, 6S, 6 Plus, 5C, 5S, and SE
- Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Note 5, S7, S6, and S5
- Motorola DROID Maxx and DROID Turbo
The list of eligible devices leaves a lot to be desired. Some great omissions include the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and the iPhones 7 and 7 Plus.
The new service covers 60% of Verizon customers
Also one notes that the service is not available in all states, and some states have only two repair stations. That means that only 60% of Verizon customers will enjoy the same day screen repair service. Nevertheless, Verizon reassures that more locations are coming soon.
Verizon encourages you to cover your device
The same-day screen repair is part of Verizon’s Total Mobile Protection. Verizon will charge a $79 deductible on covered customers. Another improvement on the insurance plan includes three claims a year (up from two). Also, those on the multi-device plan that covers more 3-10 lines can now claim nine times a year.
Verizon customers are required to sign up for a device protection plan within a month of purchasing the device. But now Verizon is opening a small window for all customers to subscribe to a program of their choice between 9th February and 9th April.
Verizone’s stock closed Thursday’s trading session at 48.81, after witnessing an increase of $0.46 or 0.95%.
